Coronavirus Guidance – Update 10th September 2020
- We have received the following information from the Sport and Recreation Alliance
Following the recent announcement from government on reduction of group sizes in social circles, the Sport and Recreation Alliance has been in direct contact with colleagues at Sport England, UK Sport and DCMS to clarify the impact on our sector.
We understand this news may have caused confusion and anxiety with you and your participants and many of you have been in touch to ask what this news means for your activity.
After a day of dialogue and consultation, we are pleased to have received an update from Sport England which provides a little more detail on the return of sport and physical activity.
While social gatherings of more than six people will be banned in England from 14 September, the government has confirmed that organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols can continue, as can organised outdoor sports and physical activity.
2. The BAB has appointed regional Covid-19 Officer at our Executive Meeting on the 5th September 2020
It was agreed that the 4 nations should each have a nominated BAB Covid-19 Officer who will check on all local requirement and advise the Overall UK Officer.
The 4 appointees are:
Steve Billett for England and Overall UK Officer
Miguel Serra for Scotland
Dave Carleton for Northern Ireland
Michael Williams for Wales
Steve Billett will continue to keep in contact with Sport England and the Sport & Recreation Alliance and will liaise on behalf of the BAB where necessary.
3. Steve Billett has been in direct contact with Sport England and they were advised that BAB organised Aikido will continue based upon our Published Guidelines and Supplements. They have NOT advised the BAB that we should cease, also based upon the Sport & Recreation Alliance update and the latest information stated today (10th September 2020) in parliament by Mat Hanock that organised sport should continue.
Although social bubbles are limited to 6 people, We confirm that as long as BAB Clubs are following our Guidance Documents that they can continue to teach or reopen a class using our class pod sizes up 15 members.
Revised for clarity 11th September 2020.
