History : The West Midlands Aikido Association is based in the West Midlands area and has been established since the 1980’s. All our instructors, club officers and committee members within the club are volunteers and take no fees or funding, this is to deliberately keep costs down and to contribute to a positive community activity and social change as everyone donates there time for the sheer love of the Art and to progress Aikido to who ever wishes to learn. Here at the West Midlands Aikido Association we aim to resemble and teach the same Aikido and physiology as taught by the founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba, by following the teaching of Morihiro Saito Shihan (9th Dan) who was the closest and the longest serving student of O-Sensei, having trained with the founder for an unbroken 23 years at the founders dojo in the Iwama prefecture. Morihiro Saito Shihan catalogued O’Sensei’s teachings in a set syllabus, enabling Aikido today to maintain its purity, form and clarity of the art the founder intended. This catalogued syllabus is what we, The West Midlands Aikido Association now follow in our daily classes and aim to fulfil the true art of Aikido. As a club we pride ourselves on our high standard of teaching so classes are taught in such a way as to allow pupils of all levels to easily understand Aikido, therefore people who are new to the art or seasoned practitioners, can all learn together easily and safely in a friendly and non competitive manner | |
