| History : The Traditional Aikido Alliance (TAA) was established in February 2021 and has grown since then to bringing together the combined resources of:
TAA is part of Traditional Aikido Europe (TAE). TAE is a group of European and allied Aikido dojos with over 400 active aikidoka from 20 dojos in 7 countries, sharing in the practice and study of Takemusu (Iwama style) Aikido, in the lineage of Morihiro Saito Sensei (9th dan Aikikai) and O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. TAE is affiliated to the Aikikai and all dan grades awarded within TAE are Aikikai registered. Our Technical Director and dan grade examiner is Sensei Lewis Bernaldo de Quirós (6th dan Aikikai). | |

| Style : Our Aikido practice is based on the teachings of Morihiro Saito Sensei, particularly from the mid-1980s onward, as transmitted to us by Sensei Lewis Bernaldo de Quirós (6th dan Aikikai). This can be described as ‘Takemusu Aikido’ or ‘Iwama Style’, or equally, ‘Traditional Aikido’. Sensei de Quirós is the Chairperson and Chief Technical Director of TAE and the ultimate technical authority for TAA. He trained in Shotokan Karate and judo for a decade before moving to Japan in the mid-1980s. Sensei de Quirós then spent eight years living in Iwama, Japan and studying directly from Morihiro Saito Sensei (1985 – 1993). During his time in Japan, Sensei de Quirós also studied tradition Japanese archery and Zen meditation. He preserves Saito Sensei’s legacy by passing on his teachings to the next generation of Aikido students Mark Allcock | |
