Chairs the Komyokan Aikido Association
who hosts this Festival annually at Easter time.
He has dedicated 46 years to Aikido. He was
promoted to Shihan in 2006. In 1990 he founded
the Komyokan Dojo in Birkenhead Wirral. He
is continually researching Aikido deeply and
instructs nationally and internationally. Last year
he was awarded 7th Dan by Hombu.

&
JOHN GOVERTS AFN 5TH Dan
John Goverts and Pieter Lagerwaard both born in
1954 started Aikido together. They are to two
leaders of the Aikido Federation of the
Netherlands (AFN).
John has together with his partner Trudeke
Sterringa (4th Dan) run a large dojo in Rotterdam.
John received royal honours in 2006 for his
voluntary work in Aikido in Rotterdam.
Pieter who is a professional Aikido teacher has
several Dojos under his wings in Utrecht, Arnhem,
Doetinchem and Nijmegen. He is also teaching
Aikido in a theatre school in Utrecht. Pieter is
married to Cathrien de Pater, (2nd Dan).
Both John and Pieter have a long-standing
relationship with Ezra Sensei, who has been and
hopefully will be their teacher, guide, inspiration
source and friend for many years in the past and
future.
